Buying A Website
Buying a website is one of the best ways to start down the road to internet success; I know that most people rush into buying domains and websites that already exist trying to exploit the existing traffic to them. But is that always the best thing to do? I am going to provide some tips for those who wish to purchase pre-existing websites and discuss some reasons for buying new domains and website packages.
If you do decide to buy an existing website here are some tips and things you should look into before buying a website.
Evaluation Phase…
- How is the domain designed (I mean is it easy to look at flow properly)?
- How good is the content? Is it linkable? Will you completely own it?
- How many backlinks are there? Are they on theme and relevant?
- Will the backlinks stay in place after the deal is Completed?
- How much income is the site producing? And how well does it convert?
Transaction Phase…
- Get yourself an attorney. You should always have a purchase contract Specifically written to protect your interests when buying a website (pre-existing). All owners on the sellers side should sign (this includes any stake holder when buying a website from a company)
- Ensure you get a clear title on the domain. If the domain has been owned by more than one person or companies you need to be sure that it was cleanly sold each time. You don’t want to spend your time and money building the domain to later have is snatched from you by someone who used to own the domain name.
- Get a clean title on the content also. Your attorney should write this into the sales contract. The seller will assure you clear copyright to all of the content (if not don’t buy the website).
- Use an escrow agent. The escrow agent will make the seller comfortable and hold your payment until everything has been agreed to.
10. Don’t close the deal until the domain is in your name, (shows in the whois query) and you have the passwords to the hosting, control panel and ftp.
Buying a website can be beneficial if you follow those tips and get a website that is already making money and converting well. The flip side is it can be a lot more expensive than buying a new website and building it altogether.
There are a lot of places out there to buy new domain names and website packages which I suggest you look into especially if you are new to website ownership.keep in mind there is a lot to do in order to maintain a website and keep it profitable. You would not want to go through all of the steps previously mentioned to get a great site and not know what it takes to maintain it. Right?
Global Domains International (GDI) is one such place to purchase a website because it is cheap to own with a low monthly fee everything is provided from hosting to an exciting website design package with 10 email addresses.
